Addictions

Addiction Hurts

If you or a loved one is struggling with addiction, you know how complicated life can feel. Stressors and challenges can be overwhelming, often leading to the use of substances or behaviours – such as drugs, alcohol, sex, shopping, or food - as coping mechanisms for pain and discomfort.

Whilst the initial choice to use these substances of escape may seem voluntary, addiction changes the brain in ways that impair the ability to stop.

Brain studies have shown that addiction impacts areas crucial for learning, memory, decision-making, and self-control; making it harder to break free from its grip. As the dependence grows, it reinforces the addiction, creating a cycle that affects both the individual and their loved ones. The encouraging news is that recovery is possible, and help can guide you towards a healthier, more fulfilling life.

Do I have an addiction?

Wondering if you might be facing an addiction is a courageous first step. Most addictions tend to fall into two main categories:

01

Substance Addictions

Substance addiction can take a toll on every part of life—physically, emotionally, and relationally. At Radiant Group, we understand addiction as a response to pain, not a failure. Our trauma-informed, evidence-based approach supports you in exploring what's beneath the substance use while helping you build safety, self-awareness, and long-term recovery. With the proper support, healing is possible. You don't have to face this alone—reconnection, clarity, and a renewed sense of self are within reach.

02

Process Addictions

Process addictions involve compulsive engagement in behaviours that offer short-term relief, distraction, or a sense of reward—such as gambling, gaming, or excessive internet use. Over time, these patterns can disrupt relationships, work, emotional well-being, and daily functioning.

Often rooted in deeper emotional pain or unmet needs, these behaviours can feel challenging to stop—even when they begin to cause harm. At Radiant Group, we offer trauma-informed, evidence-based therapy to explore the underlying drivers and help clients develop healthier ways of coping, connecting, and reclaiming control.
